The 21st National Sports Week (PON XXI) Aceh–North Sumatra 2024 marks a historic milestone in the development of Indonesian sports. More than just the highest-level interprovincial competition, PON serves as a platform for promoting sportsmanship, unity, and the advancement of human resources in sports. This major national sporting event also offers valuable opportunities to study athlete performance, sports management, organizational governance, as well as the social, economic, cultural, and educational impacts of large-scale sporting events in Indonesia.

In this regard, the Journal of Sports and Exercise Science (JOSKA) is pleased to announce the publication of a Special Issue dedicated to the 21st National Sports Week. This Special Issue aims to gather scientific articles, empirical studies, and conceptual papers related to PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra 2024. It seeks to enrich the body of knowledge while making a tangible contribution to the advancement of sports science, sports management, public policy, and technological innovations supporting national athletic achievement.

Scope
We welcome submissions covering, but not limited to, the following themes:

  • Athlete performance analysis at PON XXI.

  • Studies in sports physiology, psychology, and pedagogy.

  • Training strategies, talent development, and athlete nurturing.

  • Management of sports organizations and mega-events.

  • Sports technology and innovations enhancing athletic performance.

  • Social, cultural, and economic impacts of PON XXI.

  • Public policy and governance in Indonesian sports.

  • Comparative studies on national and international multi-sport events.

Objectives

  • To document the academic perspectives on the organization and outcomes of PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra 2024.

  • To provide a scholarly platform for exchanging research findings, ideas, and innovations in sports.

  • To contribute to the development of sports science, public policy, and the pursuit of national sporting excellence.
